PROJECT: Naval Presence

PROJECT

NAVAL PRESENCE
PersonnelReportsArchivesInbox
Again working on information learned from the Time Travel Team, the Inquisition wishes to begin establishing a naval presence, either by gaining allies who already have ships at their disposal, or by building a navy of its own.

Llomerryn; Gloriana Valdez

[personal profile] foxsays 2017-10-24 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
SUBJECT:
PARTICIPANTS: Araceli Bonaventura, Korrin Ataash, Anders, Fenris, Teren von Skraedder
DATE FILED: Mid-Harvestmere
STATUS: Complete
SUMMARY:
A small group of Inquisition members went to the Maker's Mark, favourite drinking spot of ascendant Llomerryn captain Gloriana Valdez in the hopes of gaining her support. Through drinking, mastery of Diamondback, truly dazzling puns, and catching a thief they won her over as well as revealing that she'd found Templars in the early stages of Red Lyrium corruption. These Templars were handed over to the Inquisition, and the captain agreed to to keep an eye on the area, especially Tevinter and Qunari activities.

REPORT:
Harvestmere 7, 9:44

Meeting at one of the taverns serving the Inquisition, Korrin Ataash, Anders, Fenris and myself (Araceli Bonaventura) discussed plans for approaching Capitán Gloriana Valdez, ascendant captain of Llomerryn; three ships to her name, a fearsome reputation, and not inconsiderable ties to the Felicissima Armada that the Inquisition could benefit from.

The suggestion was put forth by Korrin that she would want to try beating a 'qunari' in a drinking contest since most do and that was proven to be the case. Not long after our arrival she was indeed asked to join the captain for drinks (Andraste's Mercy, some sort of strong rum from what I understand) where they spoke of the Inquisition being in Llomerryn, the red lyrium kraken that attacked our ships, and of red lyrium and Templars. Managing to outdrink the captain was a rare thing and apparently something she approved of which started us off well.

Anders and Fenris both volunteered to play cards though Anders proved to have a very interesting way of gaining her approval though I wouldn't have believed it had I not been witness to it myself. Puns. I cannot commit them to this report, forgive me, if the Inquisition believes them to be of importance then someone may ask for Anders to write them so they can be attached and archived appropriately. I can confirm that he was a roaring success with many of those in the Maker's Mark that night, and he must have been with the captain for I saw them together, and if he could say what he said to her then live to tell the tale? A silver tongue, truly.

Gambling, of course, is of great important to pirates. To many. Fenris not only played well enough to have the captain betting on him before she played against him, he played Diamondback. Which turned out to be the captain's game. Wicked Grace is apparently not exciting enough or too well-known or whatever other reason there may be but there it is: Diamondback is her game and he knew it well.

Warden Teren von Skraedder met us as had been hoped later in the evening, helping to observe proceedings. The Inquisition at this point in time were not of good standing, still denied entry into many taverns, viewed with suspicion etc. so another pair of eyes was welcome indeed. A thief was spotted attempting to reach what we were later to discover was the captain's coat and the keys to the brig of one of her ships. Teren intercepted the thief masterfully, stopping them from obtaining it.

What came after is this: we spoke with the captain about why a thief would want the keys to her brig and she admitted that there had stranded men at sea. All of them in a lifeboat, in a terrible state, picked up by her crew but more than the usual exposure or trauma from shipwrecks and being adrift seemed wrong with them. These men were Templars showing all the signs of Red Lyrium corruption. After hearing that we knew much of it, how to destroy it, and that we were capable in our own right she was more than happy to hand the matter off to us. (Aside: she was rewarded for this 'trouble', forgive me if this is not the way forward exactly but pirates are how pirates are, and it came from my own pocket. It was a small price to pay.)

There is an ally for us now in Llomerryn to watch for the movements of both Tevinter and the Qunari. As well as to tell the pirates of Llomerryn to allow any of the Inquisition to drink peacefully whenever we happen to be in port.

-- Signed, Araceli Bonaventura y Castell

Smuggler's Cove

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2018-05-07 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
SUBJECT:
PARTICIPANTS: Korrin Ataash, James Norrington, Marisol Vivas, Ellana Ashara, Nikos
DATE FILED: Bloomingtide
STATUS: Ongoing (will mark as complete when I'm sure there are no surprises to report)
SUMMARY: A group of smugglers have set up shop in a corner of the Wounded Coast. A group of Inquisition agents arrive to kick ass and take names.

REPORT:

It would have been tough to find on our own, I'll give the smugglers that much credit. Marisol's contacts were helpful in providing the location of the cave, though we still had to do some waiting and watching to scout it out. Once we had seen enough, it was time for action.

To best combat the smugglers, our group settled on a two-pronged approach. Norrington and I were to sneak our way into the cave and attack, to run the smugglers out to the sea where the others were waiting. Easier said than done, as it turns out; between the net traps, and sheer rocks, it could have ended very differently if luck and some magic hadn't been on our side.

The smugglers themselves weren't a huge challenge, even though we didn't catch them entirely off-guard and they had more in the way of numbers, our gear and training was superior to theirs. In the end, the survivors proved very cooperative and fled straight into our companion's welcoming arms, at least in part because jars of bees tend to make people panic. I'll let Marisol describe what happened there.

Korrin Ataash

Once our group parties ways, myself, Nikos and Ellana boarded the ship. We wanted to ensure that the cargo could not set sail if those manning the ship realised that something was afoot. For the most part this went smoothly; Nikos and Ellana are both skilled in the arts of stealth. We were able to eliminate the first set of threats with minimal issues. The alarm was raised before we descended below deck, and some injuries were sustained. Thankfully we were able to secure the ship with no fatalities, other than a number of crew members. We were able to keep a couple of more pitiable crew members alive and bound, and they may be of use in gathering more information.

The cargo is fully secured (please see the attached inventory), and on the ship we were able to find their log of ports recently visited, and a collection of maps. Some of this information could well be falsified to throw us off the trail when tracing their movements, but I hope you find it of use. I think another examination of the ship to find false panels concealing any documents could be beneficial.

Baewatch report

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2018-07-30 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
SUBJECT:
PARTICIPANTS: Korrin Ataash, James Norrington, Prompto Argentum
DATE FILED: Late Solace
STATUS: Ongoing?
SUMMARY: Patrolling along the Wounded Coast, Korrin and her team encounter a stranded noblewoman and maidservant on a stricken vessel. They proceed with a rescue that's well-timed in some ways, less so in others.

REPORT:

Another patrol, another pair found. I was with Norrington and Prompto in that little sloop when we spotted what was technically a vessel on the horizon. That thing looked as though it had run into every single storm on the way south and then some. The only things that prevented it from being the unluckiest vessel ever was that it was still afloat and two people aboard were yet alive.

The pair were a noblewoman and her maidservant, apparently stuck out there for a while before we found them. How they managed to make it that far and not attract the attention of bandits is a damned miracle. Said miracle bought them time, but time also saw them at the end of their food stores and rather weak. Needless to say, they were grateful for the assistance.

I'd like to say it all went smoothly, but our efforts didn't go unnoticed forever. Bandits finally took notice toward the end, and it took some badass sailing (well, as badass as you can be in a sloop) along with my controlling the winds to make it into Kirkwall's reach in time. Their vessel couldn't be saved, but it was in such shape that bandits couldn't make use of it anyway. We grabbed what could fit in our own, or started to, but there wasn't time to get much. The noblewoman and maidservant honestly just seemed to be grateful to get out of the ordeal with their lives, so I'll call it a win all the same.

A Bad Case of Crabs

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2018-10-30 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
SUBJECT:
PARTICIPANTS: Korrin Ataash, Darras Rivain, Tessa Mackenzie, Alexandra Karahalios, Alistair?
DATE FILED: Mid-Harvestmere
STATUS: Complete (IC, OOC is still ongoing)
SUMMARY: Some naval presence project members and their allies team up to track down something dangerous. They find out it's a large, vicious (but normal and untainted) crab that needs defeating. A crab dinner may have ensued afterward, because why let it go to waste?

REPORT:

So, that was fun. It wasn't a demon, ghost or leviathan. What we found was one gigantic crab.

In the beginning, it was just Darras and I scrounging from information from old fishermen prone to exaggerate even when they aren't hammered off whatever the pub gave them. They were a strange, superstitious lot, long on atmosphere and short on solid details. Still, at least they dismissed one of my fears and we didn't need to team up with the Red Lyrium project because our culprit was also tainted on top of being a raging ball of fuckery.

We rounded up a few people crazy enough to go hunting with us and headed for the Wounded Coast that afternoon. The crusty old fishermen told us to look for an inlet shaped like a old fishhook, around the wreck of a ship named Withered Tit. In the interests of keeping this somewhat brief, I'll spare you our twelve-year-old humor and avalanche of puns.

Upon finding the wreck, Darras came up with the idea of using bait (chicken necks) to lure in our target. We decided to swim out to the shipwreck, set the bait and see what came after it. Fortunately (sort of), we didn't have to wait very long before it made an appearance. The fishermen weren't wrong; it was tricky, dangerous bastard with a taste for flesh. That no one lost their limbs this time is a near-miracle, given that we had no dedicated healers with us. (That's not to say we didn't have potions and healing grenades, we weren't completely without common sense.) It put up one hell of a fight, but so did we, and we were able to keep that going longer than it could manage. So, it's no longer a threat and we got a nice crab dinner out of the deal. Good times.

To All It May Concern in the Naval Presences Office,

I have been infoarmed that an earlier report was lacking in certain desails that pertained heavily to our eventual solution. I'm seaking to rectify that situation, for truly you have missed a punderful opportunity.

Whale remembering specific comments I made that night is difficult, I believe that this letter may convey the general sentiments and prove to be instructive should you have further deelings with Captain Gloriana Valdez.

I fish you pleasant future dealings,

Assignment: Better lifeboats
WHAT: After the Inquisition limped into Llomerryn's harbour when attacked by a red lyrium kraken and sea serpents rescuing rifters tossed into the waters, the need for sturdier boats is clear. This means crafting and testing better lifeboats, with volunteers required for both.
WHERE: Kirkwall docks
WHEN: Cloudreach
WHO: 4-5 Naval Presence members, everyone can bring +1 of their CR so long as it makes sense to do so! Desired skills include swimming, knowledge of sailing, carpentry and/or shipbuilding

Assignment: Baewatch
WHAT: Some people stand in the darkness afraid to step into the light. That's where Naval Presence comes in on the coastline of Thedas on the beaches or perhaps in some small boats or on a ship if they happen to be able to wrangle it. Assisting anyone in difficulty. Glorious slow-mo optional.
WHERE:
  • The Docks area
  • The Wounded Coast
  • Smallish islands by the coastline if there's trouble a-brewin'
    WHEN: Cloudreach
WHO: Small groups like 2-3 people if you're on a boat, 1 if you're on a beach and as good as the Hoff. You can do multiple locations with various groupings. Come back to the office for some snacks and drinks. Apply your sunscreen. Araceli will go scrounge you some dad shades from the box a rift spat out.

    Assignment: Smuggler's Cove
WHAT: A group of smugglers have set up shop in a corner of the Wounded Coast so popular rumour goes. Investigate and deal with these smugglers before they get their stolen loot out on the high seas and feel they can operate more brazenly so close to Kirkwall. All booty is to be returned to the Inquisition to be properly dealt with.
    WHERE: The Wounded Coast
    WHEN: Late Cloudreach
    WHO: 4-5 people

Your character has been assigned to BAEWATCH
Either they volunteer or were ordered to do so, it's up to you.

WHO: Korrin Ataash & James Norrington
They may take one additional person each if you wish so long as those people make sense

WHAT: Using a small vessel (more or less a sloop), Korrin and James have been tasked with sailing around the Wounded Coast in search of anyone in trouble along the coastline or in the waters there. Please watch out for the usual troubles of the bandits amongst the cliffs of course, as well as anything that might damage the vessel, it wouldn't do to need rescuing too!

While at sea they will encounter a stricken vessel of a young noblewoman and her maidservant, it will be up to them to rescue them from the waters whilst avoiding any further damage to the vessel they're removing them from since they've been stuck out there for some time. If they wish to get the story out of them, they might find out why on earth a young lady and her maid were there in the first place.

If the rescue isn't conducted carefully, someone might need to go into the water to get more involved in the rescue or it might attract much more unwanted attention. Unless they want to deal with bandits and their rescue victims. It's up to them.

WHEN: Can be set any time in Justinian/Solace; report to be in for July 31st but if you need an extension please don't be afraid to ask. No report means no completed assignment and it'll be reassigned next round.

HOW: Up to you: thread however much or little you want, there's no need to RP all of it but something to do with it even just a message to do with it or the characters chatting about it is required. Only one report is required with a link to the post/any other relevant things.

NOTES: Anything else you need/any questions etc please let me know and I'll get on that! Feel free to involve people outside of Naval Presence so long as they make sense for the mission! (Araceli at this time would probably nudge for a rifter to be involved if at all possible to help make things look good but given she's a rifter herself, it'd be a gentle nudge, zero pressure on either of you!)
