The Forces Division is the Inquisition's army in Kirkwall. It provides security for the base there and also for Inquisition agents on missions, shipments, and guests. It also includes the base's healers, and all the other support staff necessary to the outfitting and maintenance of an army, include smiths, engineers, stable workers, and the like.

Ser Coupe,

For over half a year, my project has been performing tests comparing red lyrium to the taint of darkspawn that causes a Blight. Extensive testing of cleansing runes on both red lyrium and the Blight itself have shown similar behavior in both samples and more detailed analysis through use of the microscope reveals even more. We are finally confident in saying that red lyrium (which as we know is alive) has been infected with the Blight. Though both the Blight and lyrium existed in this world before the Breach, and red lyrium existed as well, it has only been after the Breach that the growth of red lyrium has accelerated rapidly. While it is possible to blame the Red Templars for this, my theory is that the way an Archdemon is said to spread the Blight is similar to how Corypheus's red lyrium dragon is doing the same. Perhaps through some combination of the weakened Veil and the dragon, red lyrium has spread more quickly than the Red Templars themselves could sow it. This is, I stress, only a theory on my part.

Now that we know this information, the only current course of action I see is to continue with use of cleansing runes on both weapons and armor, as destroying the red lyrium dragon is a task for more than just my project alone. I trust the Division Heads will distribute this information to the parties they see fit to know.

Respectfully,

Enchanter Delacroix,

While I remain disinclined to trust a great deal to Mme. Niehaus’ instrument (I do not doubt her experience or character, merely the substance of Rifted artifacts), one may by the naked eye observe supporting evidence. We know lyrium may be otherwise sickened — the alignment of aggression, degeneration, and history in the red breed lends credence to this claim.

Should the Inquisition choose to publicize this matter, it may be prudent to gloss over the contribution of the Microscope, until such a time as the effort can be reproduced by native means. I admit some indecision of whether it ought to be spread. While it may assist in bolstering the claims of Corypheus as Darkspawn, it is possible that our research will better proceed for secrecy.

I would have your opinion before making my recommendations to Skyhold. I will forward a copy of this report to the Senior Wardens. Their cooperation will be necessary henceforth, and their testimony is of value. They are notoriously difficult
[ that sentence could end there. ] In relating detail, but perhaps the gravity of the situation can be made to move them.

All those involved are due gratitude, but I regret the reward for hard work will always be more of it. This was an uphill climb; the mountain remains.

I suggest the following course of action:

  • Extend the deployment of cleansing runes to personnel within the Anderfels and Deep Roads. With an eye to our coffers: Researching a cheaper method of production would not go amiss.
  • Survey the spread of lyrium at sites outside those actively sown. What of the thickness of the Veil? A theory need not remain theory alone.
  • Seek reports of the behaviour of Archdemons, and Darkspawn during Blight. Seek any particular weakness not yet exploited. Destroying the dragon is an aim for us all, but that does not discount one's own role in it. We cannot afford to shrug this work.

I leave it in your hands.

    Regards,

    Ser Coupe,

While I would like to believe the information being widespread that it is Blighted would lead to fewer deaths from red lyrium, there is no guarantee, and I know that caution must be used during war. Perhaps the news can be spread to the project leaders first, and they can distribute the news to each within the project? It may be for the best if the enemy is unaware of how much we know, as you say, to protect our continuing research.

I will move forward with your suggestions. It looks like there will be overlap with both the Rifts & the Veil project as well as the Wardens. I will be in touch should any new revelations appear.

    Respectfully,
    Knight-Enchanter Delacroix
