Though still reeling from political crises and the loss of Divine Justinia, the Chantry remains the most powerful institution in Thedas, and its relationship with the Inquisition has always been ambiguous at best. It is imperative that the Inquisition work to clarify and improve that relationship lest the Chantry turn its considerable influence against the organization. Working with the Chantry is also the Inquisition's best hope of shaping the ultimate outcome of the Mage/Templar conflict and the future of both the Circles and the Templar Order.
SUBJECT:EVACUATING THE CHANTRY AT MONT-DE-MARC PARTICIPANTS: Alex, Galatea, Simon, some endearing Skyhold NPCs. DATE FILED: ASAP on their return from the mission, sometime in October (what are timelines) STATUS: Complete (threading ongoing) SUMMARY: Mother Hortense of the Mont-de-Marc Chantry appealed to the Inquisition for help in escorting the many refugees gathered there to safety. A party of Inquisition scouts attended, but it went extremely poorly.
REPORT: To the Chantry Relations office,
We made it safely to Mont-de-Marc, but faced delays in our travel with evading Ander scouts. The delays had some pretty catastrophic consequences, in that by the time we got there a good number of the refugees had already left. Mother Hortense said that they were convinced no one was coming of them. I’m really sorry we couldn’t get there sooner, or what I’m about to report might not have happened.
We tried to pull those that were rushing towards the others back, and it went real bad. By trying to go after them, it drew more attention our way. ( There’s a few false starts at sentences, and things scribbled out. )
I don’t think I can hack going into the details of it, every time I try to string combinations of words together to describe it on paper it doesn’t do it justice. If you want to talk about it to get more details, I’ll do my best.
A lot of people are dead. I’d say of the people we set out with, about half of them died in that fight. Those that had already left the Chantry before were already dead or near it. Mother Hortense has and almost all the children that were left in the Chantry have made it safely. I’m very sorry to report that Ornol, Fivraena Torrald, and Knight-Lieutenant Clemence Barbary who joined us from Skyhold did not make back with us. Clemence ordered all of us to leave, and the three of them held formation at a bottleneck to hold back the darkspawn and give us time to escape with what survivors we could. There’s no way we’d have been able to make it out of there without their sacrifice.
I’m like to ask that maybe in the future there be training on procedures for us to follow, and what we should do in some scenarios, but I honestly have no idea if that is something that can be done. There’s too many variables to be able to account for everything. This was just a really rough day.
Like I said, ask me whatever you need to. Mother Hortense might need some time before she’s able to speak about it, but Galatea and Simon can give you details as well.
Written by Alexandra Karahalios at request of Galatea.
PS. If Mother Hortense or one of the others mentions a big bear, don’t be weirded out. I think it’s that one Val, Newt, Cosima and I helped out. He helped a lot. NOTES & LINKS:the log.
While it grieves me to hear of the losses suffered in the evacuation, I thank the Maker that you saw the survivors through to safety. I will send word to Skyhold concerning messeres Ornol and Torrald, and Ser Barbary.
Our Grey Wardens have substantial experience in fighting darkspawn and may offer some insight into diverting them away from vulnerable civilians in such cases as this. I will put the question to them. Doing so properly may require more detail from all of you on what happened--but those discussions can wait until you've had time and space to recover from your ordeal.
If there is anything I or this office might do to aid that recovery at this time, it is yours. The Chantry looks after her own.

PS: Will the bear take thanks in the form of honeycomb?
I can't figure out where my head's at right now, but I'll pass that along to Simon and Galatea.
The big guy's lumbered back to the woods, I think. Once we could see Kirkwall, he peeled off. I'm sure he'd love some honeycomb, but I might need to go out looking. He's one of them great bears, though, so I don't want to exhaust your supply.

Take all the time you need. And thank you.
I'll see what I can do. We need all the allies we can
gtget of late.
