Though still reeling from political crises and the loss of Divine Justinia, the Chantry remains the most powerful institution in Thedas, and its relationship with the Inquisition has always been ambiguous at best. It is imperative that the Inquisition work to clarify and improve that relationship lest the Chantry turn its considerable influence against the organization. Working with the Chantry is also the Inquisition's best hope of shaping the ultimate outcome of the Mage/Templar conflict and the future of both the Circles and the Templar Order.
SUBJECT: Oops, I Did It Agurn PARTICIPANTS: Nahariel and Saoirse (later, Myr and Simon) DATE FILED: Solace, 9:44 Dragon STATUS: Complete SUMMARY: A pair was sent to investigate the herd of gurn that have taken over a remote chantry grounds near the Western Approach and do what they can to aid the chanters and deal with the situation
REPORT:
The pair set out early and with the kind weather were able to make good time to the Chantry.
When they arrived, it was quickly confirmed that gurn had indeed taken over the entirety of the grounds. They were not agitated enough to purposefully harm the clerics residing there, or seek to do increased damage to the structure of the Chantry now that they had settled in, but conversation with the clerics revealed that early attempts to get them to leave had caused some damage. One of their number was injured, but is stable and is being treated with no need for extra aid. The real problem is the gurns.
Having dealt with displaced herds before, Dahlasanor suggested that perhaps the reason for their move was a problem within their natural habitat, and that the two agents should follow the herd's trail back and investigate within the Western Approach to see what had caused the odd migration.
After traveling to the Approach and finding the initial living space of the herd, it was discovered that the space had been corrupted by multiple relatively small deposits of Red Lyrium that had grown from the ground; enough to cause the animals distress and cause them to seek out less tainted pastures. Proper care was taken, and ultimately the deposits were destroyed.
The task of luring or driving the herd back to their initial grounds and how to do so without further destruction to the grounds was a difficult discussion, but eventually the pair decided it might be best done by creating the feeling of a similar discomfort to the initial one that drove them from their home by utilizing magic. The hope is that this might cause them to decide to leave on their own, and that the herd could be further directed along with the continued use of magic as impetus. With some thought, Mage Ceallach was able to accomplish this, and though it was a time consuming process, the herd was safely delivered home.
Due to their desire to well-represent the Inquisition in this matter, and aware that extra willing aid given by a Dalish elf and Mage would most likely bode well for further diplomatic efforts, the pair extended the tenure of their stay in order to help repair the structural damage to the Chantry, re-seed and plant the gardens that had been destroyed, and restore the hives. During this time, Dahlasanor mentioned that Mage Shivana was particularly skilled at the recapture of swarms, and secured approval for him to join them with Ser Ashlock as escort. It will take some time for the gardens to regrow, as such things cannot be hurried, but the reconstruction was successful in good time given both the aid of the Inquisition in general and the happy accident of the Inquisition's Master Builder having been sent.
While successfully completed in this case, the pair would like to suggest that this matter be forwarded to the attention of both Scoutmaster Ashara and Mage Delacroix and Warden Serra with the Red Lyrium project, as there may be some value in being able to scout out further deposits of Red Lyrium before areas become largely overgrown by seeking awareness of other strange animal migratory and nesting patterns.

You all have my sincere thanks for your thorough efforts on this mission, and mindfulness of the impacts for both those you were assisting and the Inquisition.
I have made sure a copy of your report made its way to the desk of Delacroix of the Red Lyrium project, and Scoutmaster Ashara. I have advised them that if they wish to seek out further information they should contact both yourself and Enchanter Ceallach. With that said, if I can offer you any assistance or support, please do not hesitate to make it known to me.
I am sure the Left Hand will be particularly pleased to receive word that the gurn herd went unharmed.
