SUBJECT: Bartrand's Folly PARTICIPANTS: Inessa, Merrill, Six, Jester, Kain, Dolores and Anders DATE FILED: Late Harvestmere STATUS: Complete SUMMARY: A team is sent to the first known sighting of red lyrium; the ancient thaig now known as Bartrand's Folly. Their task is to destroy the source or protect it from exploitation, denying the Red Templars means to continue their operations.
REPORT:
Our team reached Bartrand's Folly after some resistance; darkspawn weren't an issue, but the rock wraiths soon found us. It's thanks to the skill of all involved that we were able to counter them so quickly, though I do not believe we defeated all in the area. At any rate, I digress. We came to inspect the red lyrium situation.
Upon reaching the site, we soon found evidence of smugglers; lanterns, carts and such placed throughout. While an initial thought was to collapse the tunnels and thus deny the Red Templars their prize, an argument was made regarding denying the dwarves their history should we seal off the area. Then, too, was the valid concern off bringing the entire area down upon us. I am a Grey Warden, as were some of my colleagues; the idea of sacrifice is not new to us, but the rest did not make that same oath. Additionally, this was not the only source of red lyrium in the world and so that rendered such a sacrifice meaningless.
In the end, we came to a decision that seemed to satisfy everyone...at least, for the time being. We (the mages and the physically stronger of the group) were to seal away the area without collapsing said tunnels, save for one to be guarded by Inquisition agents. A missive was also sent to Orzammar, to alert the Shaperate to its presence and current state. What they do with the information is entirely in their hands now.
