Glow Patrol (Solace)

SUBJECT: Glow Patrol
PARTICIPANTS: Alexandrie, Yngvi, Lakshmi
DATE FILED: 31st Solace
STATUS: Complete
SUMMARY: A team went to Orzammar to take a tour of the new addition to the mines there. During the tour there was a cave-in, trapping the team, their guide, and a number of miners, and releasing several deadly slime molds into the passages. While they were unable to unblock the passage, they were guided to another way out, aiding and rescuing nearly all of the miners who had been trapped and injured by the cave-in on their way as well as being able to dispatch whatever mold they could muster the supplies necessary to do so.

REPORT:
[ written in Lady Alexandrie's elegant hand on parchment that is really quite nice, despite having being provided with standard-issue paper for the purpose of writing this report. ]

Madame Ambassador:

Although this assignment was expected to be a rather routine one, it in fact ended up involving some unintended excitement in the form of a fairly significant cave-in during our tour of the new addition to the mines. While a certain setback for Orzammar, it did cause our mission to become a great deal more successful than could have been previously anticipated. After all, nothing looks grander than being both magnanimous about being placed in danger by ones host and acquitting oneself well in providing immediate and unstinting aid to an ally in dire straits. (As a favorable aside, it did not go unnoticed by the city that the Rifter Rani Lakshmi Bai was instrumental in these efforts.)

Unfortunately, it was not a simple cave-in. The shift in the earth released a number of what are known to the Mining Caste as 'slime molds'. As far as we could gather from the knowledge of Lady Wemot, our guide, these are a manner of non-sentient creature legendary among the Mining Caste that gain their luminescence—and who truly knows what else—from consumption of small lyrium veins. They move quite quickly and are extremely dangerous, as they are both clinging and corrosive. For our future edification, they are able to be harmed and destroyed by both fire and salt.

There was indication that many miners had been trapped in the accident, and with the release of the mold, time was of the essence. It is possible we could have spent that time in unblocking the main passageway, however, it was strongly decided by all parties that the lives of the miners were of much higher priority. Thus, under Lady Wemot's guidance, we took a different way out of the mines, doing what we could to both destroy what creatures we came across on our journey and to aid any and all dwarves we came across. In these things we were quite successful, although I grieve to inform you that there were one or two casualties of severe injuries from both cave-in and slime mold that could not be treated with simple first aid. We expressed our condolences in person, but I imagine a formal letter of similar expression would not be out of place.

In addition, may I humbly suggest that if we are able, being willing to offer a slightly increased price for the metals we receive from the city for a period of time to be established by Inquisition leadership to support them in their reconstruction efforts may both go over well and further solidify our position as a valued friend to Orzammar?

Respectfully,
Lady Alexandrie de la Fontaine
Yngvi Congealedinagutterson
Rani Lakshmi Bai
